Prayer Shawl Ministry

A group inspired by their shared knitting/crocheting projects and praying for others joined in mission to make prayers shawls. They meet regularly at the Barcroft Starbucks or in the narthex at Peace to share stories, support one another and pray for those in need. Attendance is optional as shawls are made at home and/or donated as the need arises. All are blessed!

Many personal donations sustain this ministry as well as a 2008 grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. New knitters are always welcome. Basic knitting supplies will be provided.

Since organizing in Feb 2007 the Prayer Shawl Ministry of 21 contributors has created prayer shawls for those sick, grieving or otherwise in need of comfort. Celebration shawls for newborns or weddings are given as well. By September 2008 they had delivered 175 shawls.

On most shawls the following blessing is attached (Front): "Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10. May this shawl, created with love and filled with prayers, comfort and enfold you. May it be a sacred haven of hope and peace and quiet. Made by the Peace Prayer Shawl Ministry. (Back) We pray for you: Thank you, God, for the gift of name. Bring her/him good health. Bring her/him your peace. Bring her/him love and joy. In Jesus name. Amen

We ask you to join us in praying for shawl recipients as listed in the Peace monthly newsletter. For more information, email Anne Whitten at annewhitten@cox.net.
