Serving the Lord at Peace Lutheran Church

We reach out to serve those in need in our community, country and throughout the world. We do this through our gifts of time, talent and dollars.

Gifts of Time

Many of us are active in the Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA). We drive those who have no other means of transportation to doctor's visits and clinics. We pick-up and deliver donated furniture to families in need. We collect food and organize the ACCA food pantry. We hammer and paint to renovate homes for Rebuilding Together (formally Christmas and Succoth in April) and we visit nursing homes. Many other volunteer opportunities are available both at Peace and in our surrounding community.

Gifts of Talent

We make quilts for distribution throughout the world via the Lutheran World Relief (LWR). We serve in Peace Church's various ministries and as members of the Congregation Council to carry out the mission of our church. Various artists at Peace have created works of art to enhance our worship environment, to include stations of the cross used during Lent, an information brochure for the church, and a Christmas card for the annual Gifts of Hope program. (See also the talents in the area of music.)

Gifts of Dollars

We take seriously our call to Biblical stewardship. Peace contributes nearly one-third of its income to others. We support the national and regional bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We contribute to social ministries that serve the homeless, unemployed, children and the elderly in the Washington, D.C. metro area, e.g., ACCA, Lutheran Social Services and Community Family Life Services. We support the ELCA World Hunger Drive and regional and local organizations fighting poverty and disease, such as Bailey's Crossroads Shelter, Habitat for Humanity and the Whitman Walker Foundation.

We are an active supporter of a Lutheran storefront mission congregation in the Bronx, New York. We have given financial support and have visited and worshipped with them and they with us. We have ties to a rapidly growing congregation in Ethiopia. We have given funds for building a church there.

We invite you to come and join us in serving.
